Innovation Projects

One of the main characteristics of a successful engineer is being innovative. Innovation is not only being creative, but finding new solutions to pre-existing or made up problems. These are 4 of my projects I consider to be innovative. These all arose from problems that were pre-existing in my life, already existing, or just fun little projects I liked to try on the side to keep my brain's creativity growing!

Dog Carpet Mill

This is a type of treadmill for our dog's Tucker & Oakley. During the winter and spring, it is often too cold, rainy, or snowy to get the dogs their daily exercise required to be healthy. My solution to this was a manual carpet mill, similar to a slat mill, that gave our dogs the freedom to run and get necessary exercise as often as needed without braving the elements.

Rubik's Cube Box

One of my bigger passions in life is solving puzzles. Whether this comes through puzzles on pen and paper, video games, or little knick-knacks to play with, these take up all a large part of my daily growth mentally. One of my favorite puzzle games is the Rubik's cube. These often come in soft, cardboard boxes and can be fragile. My solution to this was laser cutting a box to safely store my Rubik's cube while also giving it a neat display!

"Friend's Couch" Desk Organizer

In our free time, my girlfriend and I love watching television. One of our favorite TV shows to binge is "Friends". In one specific episode, they purchase a new couch and attempt to move it upstairs in a hilarious chain of events. When a new desk organizer was needed, this scene offered much inspiration to me. My solution was to model a similar couch using CAD that was capable of holding pen's, scissor's, & glasses as well as having a charging dock for air-pods and a cellphone!

Kitchen Chair Redo

In my free time, I enjoy challenging myself with new projects I have never attempted before. When I first moved to college, I purchased a cheap kitchen table and chairs that were covered in a disgusting, old, stiff upholstery. These were also very uncomfortable to sit on. In order to spruce them up, I challenged myself to a fabric's project which involved adding padding to the chairs as well as changing out the fabric to given them a new feel! These turned out very well and are one of my projects I am happiest I challenged myself with.
